Camp Chazak, a program of URJ Eisner and Crane Lake Camps, is entering it's 2nd year. Camp Chazak serves campers from 8-14 years old, whose social delays impair their ability to function in a "typical" camp environment. Social skills coaching is incorporated into the daily camp schedule.
Campers will have a URJ Camp experience, enjoying all camp activities, from basketball and soccer to tie dying and pottery, boating and swimming. Chazak campers will experience the wind through their hair as they woosh across the zipline, they'll be cheered on by friends as they hit the target at archery and they'll leave their mark by creating a bunk plaque to be hung on camp.
Camp Chazak runs concurrently with NFTY Northeasts Summer Institute. NFTY participants, who are high school students, help to bring the spirit of camp to Chazak. Together we will have campfires, experience Shabbat and make new friends.
Camp Chazak targets individuals with social deficits who are high functioning in regards to toileting, dressing, hygiene, etc. Many of these campers are diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, High Functioning Autism, and other disorders involving social developmental delays.
